Urgent Flood Appeal

People in Sri Lanka are suffering greatly, and urgently request your help. A cyclone was over the island on Saturday 23/11 and Sunday 24/11, causing much flooding and damage, and since then there has been persistent torrential rain. Some pastors have given their reports with details as follows.
”Many houses are flooded. The Baticaloa district is badly affected and in one village alone 250 families have had to move into public buildings for shelter, and this is true in many areas. Roads and bridges are damaged and underwater, making it difficult to deliver aid. High winds have brought trees down, damaging roofs and in some cases the winds have blown the roof away. Vegetable gardens are washed away, as are all the young rice crops, and so the farmers have no hope of future income or of a food supply. Chicken huts and goat pens have been damaged with some loss of livestock. In the hill country of Hatton district the water is washing down the hills causing many landslides, damaging houses and blocking roads. High seas have meant that the fishermen have been banned from fishing for a month now, depriving them of income and a food supply. Day labourers are not able to work. If they are unable to work then they have no income. There is no firewood as everything is sodden and so it isn’t possible for the poorest people to cook.”
Requests for assistance are already coming in, the crisis is widespread and the people are starving. Please scroll down the page to see some images of the situation in Sri Lanka. If you are able, please consider donating.
