Urgent Triple Cyclone Appeal
βThe worst floods in living memory.β
Flood Update 29th November 2025
On 26th and 27th November 2025, an exceptional weather event hit several parts of Asia, including the island of Sri Lanka. High winds and rainfall of up to 350mm fell in 48 hours, causing widespread flooding. Rivers burst their banks and water levels rose rapidly. Landslides in the mountain region of Badulla have blocked roads and damaged homes and rice crops have been flooded. Thousands of displaced families have been moved to schools for shelter. Over 200 people are known to be dead or missing at this time. Providentially, this event occurred during the main Pastors & Workers conference of our partner organisation, LEFC. this event was held in Trincomalee, and attended by approximately 300 people. A team visiting from the UK experienced the turbulent weather conditions and heard first hand reports of its impact across the country. One Pastor in Haputale reported of a mother and daughter crushed by a landslide that covered their house. A Pastor from Mullativu had his house badly damaged by a fallen tree, but mercifully his wife, three children and new born baby were unhurt. Many homes in Muthur and Mullitivu have been washed away and several fishermen who attend LEFC churches have lost their fishing boats. LEFC quickly appointed a team of local Pastors and workers to coordinate the relief effort. A plan was formulated to distribute emergency food packages to believers badly affected. Food parcels have been assembled which will help an average family for five days. Parcels contain rice, lentils, sugar, flour, soya protein, tea, soap and matches. Local church Pastors are responsible for allocating and delivering these packages to those that need them most. Please pray for those caught up in this latest difficulty in Sri Lanka that the Lord will strengthen His people and the local churches through this trial. Pray also that the waters will subside quickly and people will be kept safe as they begin to clean up, repair the damage and start to try and rebuild their livelihoods. If you can, please consider donating to the work in Sri Lanka.
